The bride, sitting on the edge of the bed in the bedroom where she dressed at her parents' home, with the large mirror behind her and a few quiet minutes before the ceremony. Most wedding-day bridal portraits work this way for me, not as a posed shoot but as a small window in the rhythm of the day where the bride sits down, takes a breath, and lets herself be photographed.
A wedding day goes quickly, particularly when you are at the centre of it. My job is to record the day by being part of it, not by directing it. I am watching you all day, often from across a room through a long lens, sometimes closer in. If I can give you a moment of quiet inside a busy day, I will.
The family home was in the Cricket Club area of North Toronto, in the part of midtown where I now do most of my family photography as well: Lawrence Park, Forest Hill, Rosedale, and Leaside.
