Caught in the Rain in Port Hope

The groomsmen run for cover after a sudden shower

A sudden downpour, and the groomsmen take off running — laughing, soaked, and entirely unrehearsed. This is the kind of frame I'm always quietly hoping for on a wedding day. The carefully planned portraits will get made, and they should; couples ask for them, families want them, and they belong in the album. But the photographs that tend to land hardest, years later, are usually the ones nobody saw coming.

The wedding was in Port Hope, with the group staying at The Walden Hotel on Walton Street before the ceremony. The weather that morning had other plans.
